Demitasse is an online bi-annual literary and art journal that publishes in the spring and fall. We are dedicated to showcasing a variety of prose, poetry, and essays alongside wonderful works of art. The word demitasse originates from the French language, meaning "half-cup," used by baristas to serve espresso. Here at Demitasse, we will work as your barista: with our platform as the cup and your work as the espresso, serving it to lovers of the arts.

We accept pieces across all genres from writers across all walks of life. We are, however, especially delighted to read and publish pieces that are bitter and strong like an espresso. The only thing we ask is that you submit works that feature your own unique style and voice as well as pieces that draw upon your own values. Demitasse is especially committed to highlighting writers of color, queer/trans writers, disabled writers, or anyone else who has had to suffer at the hands of the oppressive systems we have in place.

Editor in Chief

Khadijah is a published writer and painter from the Chicagoland area. They founded Demitasse Lit to become closer to the writing community and to help other small writers become published. When they’re not writing or painting, they like to watch anime and play with their cats.

Poetry Editor

Kamille is a screenwriter, poet, and occasional blogger from the DC area. She graduated with a degree in Creative Writing from Knox College in 2023 and loves to write about the world around her as a means to cope. When she’s not hanging with her partner and friends, you can find her scribbling down notes in her phone about love, anxiety and what she needs to get from the store. She’s excited to read all the fiction submissions that come in and hopes to be in community with all the writers that submit
